Engineered Saw-marked Oak
Distressed and aged flooring HC3048
One of the biggest new developments within the flooring industry in the last several years has been the creation and rise in popularity of ‘textured’ oak. These Saw-marked Oak oak planks from Listone Giordano are a fine example of this new finishing technique. Each of these planks has been brushed to remove the lighter part of the oaks natural grain, this allows us to actually feel the grain of the wood when touching the surface. Furthermore, the brushing process also gives a great effect when planks are exposed to large amounts of light. Whilst a traditional oak board can look flat when viewed n bright light, the brushed boards really take on a life of their own, reflecting the light on the surface as well as creating shadows in the recesses. The brushing texture can really help to convey the planks themselves as natural products.
The second texturing technique on these planks is the saw-marking, to create this effect a band saw is lowered lightly onto the planks surface at irregular intervals. Much the same as the brushing texture in terms of lighting, the saw-marking effect also highlights the woods natural grain by running parallel to it. The contrast of the more mechanical regularity of the saw-marking with the wild waves of the brushed grain give these planks a great contrast, between the natural and man-made aspects of the design. The final effect here is the distressing which has been applied randomly and along the grain to give a more realistic feel. The rustic oak works brilliantly with this effect to give a true impression of age.
