Here at Hicraft, we pride ourselves on our ability to use our huge range of contacts to source flooring that others cannot. This was the case when Finnish interior designers Oy Paxteam contacted us recently looking for a particular shade of white oak herringbone that was proving rather elusive.

The Finnish designers were working for German cruise company TUI on one of the new ‘Mein Schiff’ liners that are currently being made in Turku Shipyard, Finland, one of five new ships being built between 2014 and 2019. The flooring required was white oiled 90mm Wide, 11mm Thick oak engineered herringbone to cover an area of 70 square metres.

Within a few days of receiving the request, we managed to source some custom made samples from a highly regarded Italian manufacturer in varying shades of white and forward them to Finland. After several weeks of communications between us, the interior designers, architects and TUI cruises; a final colour was decided upon and the flooring was manufactured within 4 weeks. We then managed to arranged shipping between Italy and Finland.

The lead representative emailed us after completion to say that ‘The installation of the herringbone went very well and the customers were pleased with the finishing.’ He also forwarded us some images of the completed flooring which looks absolutely stunning!
